A 64-bit OS and processor are required. The spec floor is modest — a GTX 970-class GPU and 8 GB RAM are enough to meet the minimum, and the whole install needs only 10 GB of storage.
Can my PC run it? Quick checklist
- Desktop GPU from ~2014 or later (GTX 900-series / R9 300-series): You meet the minimum. Expect playable framerates at 1080p.
- GTX 1660 / RTX 2060 / RX 5700 or better: You clear the recommended bar comfortably.
- 8 GB RAM: Both tiers list 8 GB, so most modern PCs are fine — but close other heavy apps during co-op sessions.
- Integrated graphics only (no dedicated GPU): Risky — none of the listed minimum GPUs are integrated. An iGPU-only machine may struggle to launch or run smoothly.
- Steam Deck: Not officially verified at launch, but the modest requirements suggest raw performance shouldn't be the main obstacle.
Laptop notes
Most modern laptops clear the 8 GB RAM and 10 GB storage bars, but the GPU is the real gate. Thin-and-light machines with only integrated graphics likely won't meet the minimum. If you're on a gaming laptop with a discrete GTX/RTX card, you're set.
Controllers & input
Grain Rot has full controller support (Xbox controllers confirmed) and is built for relaxed, physics-driven input — no twitch reflexes required. Mouse-and-keyboard works too.
Platforms
Grain Rot is Windows PC (Steam) only. No PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch version has been announced, so there's no crossplay yet. See the Beginner Guide for group-size tips.
