Grain Rot — Frequently Asked Questions
The player questions we see most. Jump to the Review for the buying call.
Can Grain Rot be played solo?
Yes. It supports single-player as well as 1–4 player online co-op, but it's clearly built for a group — the chaos and the loot-sharing shine with friends. Solo works for farming resources and upgrading the Outpost.
What happens when your wooden vessel breaks?
You don't die for good. Your Living Spark escapes and can possess a nearby vessel to keep playing. The real danger is collective: if the whole crew's vessels break, all the loot is lost.
Does Grain Rot have crossplay?
Not yet. It's Windows PC (Steam) only; no PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch version has been announced, so there's no cross-platform play.
What are the system requirements?
Minimum: Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Core i5-4590 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 8 GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD Radeon R9 390, DirectX 11, 10 GB storage. Recommended bumps the GPU to an RTX 2060 / RX 5700. See the System Requirements page.
How does extraction work?
After descending, you reach the elevator and trigger the escape — often by finding a fuse to activate it. Some players report a Compass working as a stand-in when your pack is full, but confirm the in-run mechanism each time, as it can vary.
