What Is Grain Rot?

The core idea, in plain English.

Grain Rot is a first-person co-op extraction horror built around physics-driven chaos and a body that won't stay dead. You and up to three friends play as a Living Spark — an artificial soul riding a fragile wooden vessel through a scorched world where the surface is gone and everything left exposed eventually catches fire. Ride a cursed elevator into shifting underground ruins, smash furniture for resources, feed debris into the Grinder for gold, and extract before the Corrupted close in. If your vessel breaks, your Spark escapes and hunts for a new body — but if the whole crew breaks, the loot is gone for good.

What you haul back rebuilds the Sanctuary Outpost, and what you rebuild decides what you can carry down next time. Progression lives as much in the hours between runs as in the runs themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common player questions.

Can Grain Rot be played solo?

Yes. It supports single-player as well as 1–4 player online co-op, but it's clearly built for a group — the chaos and the loot-sharing shine with friends.

What happens when your vessel breaks?

You don't die for good. Your Living Spark pops out and can possess a nearby vessel to keep playing — but if the whole crew breaks, all the loot is lost.

Does it have crossplay?

Not yet. Grain Rot is Windows PC (Steam) only; no PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch version has been announced.

Will my PC run it?

The minimum GPU is modest (GTX 970 / R9 390) and it only needs 8 GB RAM and 10 GB storage. See the requirements page.
